Best Cold Brew & Iced Coffee for French Press

Heavy-bodied coffees built for immersion brewing and a coarse grind. Ranked by our Coffee Score.

How to buy the best Cold Brew & Iced Coffee for French Press

Immersion, coarse grind, and mouthfeel

Use a coarse grind and a 1:12 to 1:15 ratio, steep about four minutes, then press slowly. Because the metal mesh passes oils and some fines, the cup carries heavy body and texture. Grinding too fine produces sediment and over-extraction, the most common French press complaint.

Cold extraction chemistry and concentrates

Cold and iced formats lean on low-temperature or flash-chilled extraction to keep acidity and bitterness in check while preserving body. Concentrates are designed to be diluted, so judge them by how balanced they taste once water or milk and ice are added, not straight from the bottle.

French Press coffee — FAQ

What grind size for French press?

Coarse, like sea salt. Finer grinds slip through the mesh as sediment and over-extract into astringency during the long immersion.

Why is there sludge in my French press coffee?

Usually too fine a grind or pressing too hard. Coarsen the grind and press slowly; you can also decant off the bed once plunged.

Should I dilute cold brew concentrate?

Yes. Most concentrates are brewed strong (around a 1:8 ratio) and meant to be cut with water or milk over ice to taste, commonly 1:1.
