Brew method · 12 reviewed
Concentrated, heavy-bodied coffees suited to stovetop moka-pot extraction. Ranked by our Coffee Score.
The moka pot brews under modest pressure (around 1-1.5 bar) as steam pushes water up through the grounds. It yields a concentrated, heavy-bodied cup that sits between drip and espresso, and it rewards control of heat and grind.

STRONG COFFEE, MEDIUM ROAST: Our full-body Truegrit Robusta brings out notes of hazelnuts and zest, with nearly twice the caffeine as our other beans and 2x more antioxidants than Arabica.
Use a fine-to-medium grind (coarser than espresso), start with hot water in the base, and brew over low-to-moderate heat to avoid scorching. Pull it off the heat as soon as the flow lightens and sputters. Too much heat or too fine a grind produces a harsh, astringent cup.
Whole beans preserve aromatics until the moment you grind, which is why specialty coffee is sold this way. Buy fresh-roasted with a visible roast date, store sealed away from oxygen, heat, and light, and grind immediately before brewing. A burr grinder and a recent roast date will out-improve almost any equipment upgrade.
Fine-to-medium, finer than drip but coarser than espresso. Espresso-fine grinds choke the pot and over-extract.
Usually heat that is too high or grind that is too fine. Use lower heat, start with hot water, and remove the pot the moment the flow turns pale and sputters.
Whole beans are at their peak roughly 7-30 days off-roast and decline steadily after. Buy what you will use within a few weeks, keep them sealed, and grind per brew.
