Low-acid, heavy-bodied coffees that make a sweet, concentrated cold brew. Ranked by our Coffee Score.
Cold brew is a time-and-temperature trade: long immersion in cold water extracts sugars and body while leaving behind much of the acidity and bitterness that hot water pulls. The result is a heavy-bodied, low-acid concentrate you dilute to taste.
Every coffee below is graded on our five-point specialty standard — no fluff, no pay-to-play:

Steep a coarse grind in cold water for 12-24 hours, typically around a 1:8 ratio for a concentrate, then filter and dilute with water or milk. Cold water extracts slowly and selectively, which is why cold brew reads as low-acid and heavy-bodied. Longer steeps increase strength but eventually add muddiness.
Instant coffee is brewed, then dehydrated. Freeze-drying preserves more aromatics than high-heat spray-drying, and microground (hybrid) products blend finely milled roasted coffee back in for more body and clarity. The trade-off across the category is always aromatic loss during processing, so the best options protect and rebuild flavor rather than simply concentrating it.
Typically 12-24 hours. Shorter steeps are lighter; longer steeps build strength but can turn muddy past about 24 hours.
Cold water extracts the acidic and bitter compounds far more slowly than hot water, so a cold steep yields a naturally low-acid, heavy-bodied concentrate.
Freeze-drying removes water at low temperature, preserving more of the volatile aromatics that high-heat spray-drying drives off, so the cup tastes closer to fresh-brewed.
